1. How long should I plan for a safari in Tanzania?
To truly immerse yourself in Tanzania’s safari experience covering iconic spots like Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire we recommend 5 – 7 days. This gives you time to explore the northern circuit and spot the Big Five. If you have more time, extended adventures of 20 + days let you dive even deeper. For travelers on tight schedules, short safaris of 1 – 2 days around Arusha or Tarangire are possible, or you can fly directly into the Serengeti for a quick visit.

2. When is the best time to visit Tanzania for a safari?
The dry season (June to October and January to March) is best for wildlife viewing with animals gathering around waterholes. These months are sunny but can be crowded, especially during the Great Migration. The rainy seasons (April to May and November to December) bring lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and lower lodge rates. Transition months like late March, early June, and late October offer a quieter experience with pleasant weather.

3. What is the Great Wildebeest Migration?
It is one of nature’s most extraordinary events as over a million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles move across the Serengeti Mara ecosystem. The cycle begins with calving in southern Serengeti followed by their journey through the Serengeti into Kenya’s Masai Mara. A highlight is the dramatic Mara River crossing where herds face predators and strong currents, a true spectacle of survival.

4. When is the best time to see the Great Wildebeest Migration?
The migration is a year-round journey with different highlights. February to March is calving season in southern Serengeti. May to August brings the thrilling Mara River crossings. From August to October the herds roam Kenya’s Masai Mara before looping back into Tanzania. Each stage offers a unique experience.

5. What is the easiest way to get to Tanzania?
Kilimanjaro International Airport is the main gateway to northern parks like Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire while Dar es Salaam International Airport is ideal for visiting southern Tanzania’s parks. Both airports are well connected with international airlines.

6. What should I wear on safari in Tanzania?
Pack neutral colored clothing such as khaki, beige, or gray to blend with nature and reduce dust visibility. Avoid blue because it attracts tsetse flies and camouflage because it is restricted for civilians. Lightweight shirts, trousers, and a warm jacket for mornings and evenings are essential. Add sun protection like hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Sandals are fine at lodges but closed shoes are recommended for game drives.

7. Tanzania or Kenya which is better for safari?
Both countries offer incredible safari experiences, but Tanzania often stands out for its less crowded parks and diverse wildlife. The Serengeti’s extended Great Migration and the chance to climb Mount Kilimanjaro make it especially unique. What sets Tanzania apart even more is the option to combine your safari with a relaxing getaway in Zanzibar, where you can unwind on pristine beaches after your wildlife adventure.

8. Am I allowed to leave the vehicle during a safari?
For safety reasons leaving your safari vehicle is only permitted in designated areas. This ensures both your safety and respect for wildlife.

9. Can I bring and use a drone in Tanzania’s parks?
Drones are generally prohibited in national parks for regular visitors. Special filming permits are available but require 3 – 4 months of processing and additional fees. Attempting to bring in a drone without permits may result in it being confiscated at customs.

10. Is the internet available during a safari in Tanzania?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available in most safari vehicles and lodges. However, coverage may be spotty in remote parks, so expect occasional interruptions during your trip.
